ACTIVITY 8.2 - How IoT Is Quietly Making My Life Easier (And a Little More Complicated)
After watching Benson Hougland’s TEDx talk, “What is the Internet of Things? And why should you care?” , I realized how much the Internet of Things (IoT) already impacts my life—without me even thinking about it. Hougland explains that IoT connects everyday objects—like thermostats, lights, and even coffee makers—to the internet, so they can collect and exchange data. It’s wild to think about, but this connectivity allows these devices to predict what we need and help us automate tasks. It’s made my life a lot more convenient, even in ways I hadn't fully appreciated before. For me, my main experience with IoT comes through my smartwatch. It connects to my phone and tracks all kinds of health data—like my steps, sleep, heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen levels. It’s helped me stay on top of my health, and I can quickly check my stats right from my wrist.
